Spring is an ideal time to tackle major cleaning projects, but when you clean, don’t forget to include your appliances in your list of tasks. Your major appliances require a thorough cleaning in order to operate efficiently and at their best. To guard against damage or the need for repairs, be sure to keep your appliances clean and free of debris.
Refrigerator coils require periodic cleaning. In fact, it’s a good idea to clean them regularly. However, you may certainly include your refrigerator during your general spring clean. Refrigerator coils are located at the bottom or the back of the refrigerator. You can use a vacuum cleaner brush to clean them thoroughly. Be sure to also clean the walls and area surrounding the refrigerator to remove any dust that may have built up.
Stove and Oven
A thorough cleaning of your stove and oven can result in more effective operation and prevent burning smells when you cook. Unless your oven’s owner’s manual suggests you can place oven racks in the dishwasher, it’s important to wash these by hand. In fact, you should follow the manual’s recommendations for cleaning your oven as well as certain types of cleaners should not be used.
Your microwave oven should also be cleaned regularly. To provide it with a thorough spring clean, you can place a coffee mug within it filled with water and lemon slices. Heat the water and lemon for between three and four minutes. After heating, you can then wipe the interior clean. Food particles should wipe away easily.
Including your washer during your spring clean is a good idea as detergent can build up. It’s also not uncommon for unpleasant smells to pop up in your machine. Using white vinegar, you can provide your washing machine with the scouring it needs to smell pleasant and remain free from chemical or mineral deposits.
Be sure to include the dryer on your cleaning to-do list. Lint build-up can become a fire hazard, but it can also affect the operation of your dryer. Be sure to remove lint build-up from the dryer vent as well as the dryer cabinet.
Spring cleaning can result in greater enjoyment of your home. Cleaning your appliances, however, can result in their improved operation. Cleaning and maintaining them properly can also impact their longevity so that you can depend upon them for years to come.
